Appreciate the beauty and craftsmanship of carved wood decoys in this latest exhibition presented by the Durow Trust. Hunting and ice fishing decoys have been created and used in Wisconsin for thousands of years. The techniques and materials may have changed, but the function of luring animals has remained the same. However, hand-made decoys became collectible folk art in the Twentieth Century. The exhibition will present the art of noted regional decoy carvers, each with distinctive styles and techniques for creating these functional folk art pieces.
Thanks to a bequest from the estate of Frederick and Marian Hughes Durow, the Museum can exhibit, preserve, and develop its extensive collection of decorative arts. Through the Durows' generosity and foresight, generations of visitors will be able to experience the beauty and artistry of these amazing objects.
