Half standing view of Reverend David Davies. He is wearing a dark frock coat and vest, white shirt and white tie. He also wears a thin chin beard. David Davies was born May 2, 1845 in Prion North Wales, the son of Ioan and Elizabeth Davies. The family came to America in 1865 and settled in Winnebago County. He attended Lane Seminary for one year and received his BA from Ripon College, his MA from Ripon in 1887, and an honorary Doctorate of Divinity in 1898. He was ordained as a minister in the Welsh Calvinist Church in 1874 and served as pastor at Bethesda and in Oshkosh from 1877-1881. He married Jeanette A. Jones on June 25, 1878 and the couple had two sons: Howell David and Ivor Hugh Jones. Jeanette died in 1885. He then married Mary Jones in 1887. He wrote the book, "Hayes Y Cymry" or "History of the Welsh", in 1897 and reprinted in English in 1947. |
