John K. Roberts was born in Flintshire Wales, the son of Mrs. David Roberts. The family came to America in 1847 and settled in Winnebago County. He attended Lawrence College and began preaching in 1864. He married Ruth Jones on December 8, 1872. He was pastor at Peniel Welsh Church and owned a farm nearby. The couple had one son, David Kendrick Roberts. The Roberts family moved to Spain, Dakota Territory in 1893. John Roberts wrote a chapter in "Hayes Y Cymry" or "History of the Welsh", written by Reverend David Davies in 1897 and reprinted in English in 1947, pp. 103-108. |
