Charles Noe was the son of Joseph Noe. Joseph Noe was born in Wurttenberg, Germany circa 1798. His wife's name was Cresentia (sp) and the couple had four children born in Germany: Sebastian; Charles; John; and William. The family immigrated to the United States in 1847 and settled on a farm in Nekimi Township, Winnebago County, Wisconsin and owned 80 acres in Section 11. Joseph Noe's travel papers are in the OPM archives collection. Charles resided at Oshkosh, Winnebago County when he enlisted there on Feb. 1, 1862. He was assigned as above and was promoted to Corporal in that company. Charles was then mustered out on Apr. 29, 1865 at the end of his term of enlistment. An original letter written by him in late 1864 to his brother from Fortress Monroe, Virginia is in the OPM Civil War Small Collections box. He was listed in 1868 as a carpenter residing at 6 Seventh Street in the city of Oshkosh. Charles was married to Augusta Siefeld. They had a son, unnamed at registration, who was born in Oshkosh on May 25, 1882. Charles was listed in the veteran section of the 1885 and 1895 Wisconsin State census at P.O. Oshkosh. He was listed in 1888 as a member of GAR Post #241 at Oshkosh. Carl was listed in the 1890 federal census as residing at 30 Rosalia Street in Oshkosh.
