The Art of Jan Brett

November 15, 2008 – February 1, 2009

Arctic expeditions, African safaris, rainforest excursions… Bedtime stories just got a little more real!

Original artwork and adventure areas bring the pages of Jan Brett’s stories to life. Check out a replica dog sled, play inside an igloo, say hello to our hedgehogs Prickles and Petunia and… LOOK OUT! Oh, never mind, that’s just a stuffed lion; you’re safe. And when you finally get exhausted and need a break, kick back in a bean bag chair and spend some time reading your favorite Jan Brett book.

Jan Brett, considered one of G.P. Putnam's Sons brightest stars, is renowned for her picture books that annually climb to the top of the best-seller list. The admired children’s author/illustrator decided as a child that she wanted to be an illustrator. “I remember the special quiet of rainy days, when I felt that I could enter the pages of beautiful picture books.” Now, Brett tries to re-create that feeling in her own stories. Her highly detailed paintings and illustrative borders, rich in cultural narration from the various locales her books explore have received international attention and recognition. The Art of Jan Brett will feature 45 original paintings from some of Jan Brett’s best selling books.

“A picture is never finished until I feel I can walk into a page.” Jan Brett
