Signs of the Times
March 19 – July 24, 2011
Take a trip down memory lane with Signs of the Times!
This local history exhibit transforms the Museum into a billboard of 150 years of local history and invites visitors to explore Oshkosh through the signs and symbols of our past. The exhibit features more than 80 memorable neighborhood signs and advertisements dating back to the mid-19th century.
- Business markers
- Product advertisements
- Emergency notices
- Commemorative plaques
- Emblematic signs
Popular artifacts such as a “Welcome Home” banner from World War I, a Chief Oshkosh Beer sign and a 1905 marker denoting the dedication of the Oshkosh Main Street Bridge spell out the colorful history of our city on the water. All of the items in the exhibit are from the collections of the Oshkosh Public Museum, and with many signs on display within memory, such as an early Green Bay Packers game schedule and a sign advertising delicious Carver Ice Cream, the exhibit is sure to take you back to the “good ol’ days” of Oshkosh.
