Grand Staircase, c.1912

Then:

Visitors once entered the home through broad double doors decorated with Tiffany bronze grilles. Once inside, they stood in the Grand Hall under a beautiful, iridescent Tiffany ceiling fixture. Immediately in front of them was the Grand Staircase that led to the second floor. A marble fireplace between two large carved columns sits opposite the entrance to the den.

Now:
Today the Grand Hall is a reminder of the elegance of the Edwardian Era. The original Tiffany ceiling fixture and replicated wall and ceiling fixtures accurately depict the original character of the home. Several of the museum's sculptures are exhibited in the hall, including Nydia, the Blind Flower Girl of Pompeii, which once belonged to Edgar Sawyer. There is also a memorial to Nile Behncke, the first director of the Oshkosh Public Museum.
