Chandara by James Gurney
Return to Dinotopia

Dinosaur and CrocodileThe last day for Return to Dinotopia was Sunday, January 27, 2008. The exhibit now heads to Europe.

Field of FlowersThe spectacular series of dinosaur 49 painting were from James Gurney’s new book, Dinotopia: Journey to Chandara, released in fall 2007. The book continues the adventures of Arthur Denison, a 19th century scientist shipwrecked on the mythical island of Dinotopia, where dinosaurs and humans live side by side.

In addition to paintings, the exhibit included models, hands-on activities, and fossil cast of dinosaur skulls. The cast skulls were especially popular with visitors. The carnivores, the great meat-eaters, were well liked and both the Allosaurus and Albertosaurus skulls received much visitor attention. Over the three-month viewing, Return to Dinotopia brought in 2,322 visitors.

The Oshkosh Public Museum was the first and only museum in the United States to show Gurney’s latest exhibit. To read more about Gurney and Dinotopia, visit the Dinotopia web site. Click here!
