The seven Discovery Boxes that have been assembled by museum staff are now being managed by the CESA6 Media Center. Each box contains high quality reproductions of objects used in the past. Also provided is a binder with each Discovery Box containing additional information about the subject and ideas for lesson plans.

Pioneer Era Living |
We take you back to the 1840s when settlers were pouring into Wisconsin Territory, building towns and clearing farms. Show your students what chores would have been like in the time of Laura Ingalls Wilder. This Discovery Box contains a coffee mill, lantern, and a clay mug and jar. An ink well, quill pen, candlesnuffer, sander and apple corer is included also. The sample pages from almanacs and other books from the early 1800s give you a glimpse into Wisconsin's frontier era. Geology |
Geology has just become that much more interesting with the help of 39 different rock and mineral samples and 4 genuine fossils in this box. Some of the 20 minerals in this box are quartz, calcite, pyrite, magnetite and hematite. A few of the 19 rock samples are- basalt, chert, slate, pumice, dolostone and marble. Civil War Soldier |
Your students will understand the hard life of the Civil War soldier when they see inside this box a haversack stuffed with replicas of items commonly carried by the soldiers such as a comb, toothbrush, ink well, cards, tin plate and cup, spoon and fork and a checkers game. Also in this Discovery Box you will find a selection of army food rations like sugar, coffee, rice, salt pork and hardtack. A Union army forage cap and canteen are included as well.
