Receipt for Sugar Rations issued to Pearl Hansen. Sugar was rationed during World War II due to the high demand for its use by the military. Sugar was also imported by ship to the United States, and ships were now being used to transport military supplies. Ration consumption was regulated and special allowances were made for civilians who did home canning, like the Hansen Family.
