Model A-11 Flight Helmet: leather six piece construction; chamois lining; four steel snaps on front edge for attachment of oxygen mask; padded ear cups and rubber exterior covering with opening on each side for receivers (not present); leather chin strap at bottom with steel buckle; hand-written in ink on interior of flap: "FEB - 15 -45". This helmet does not conform completely to the A-11 Flight Helmet and may incorporate changes made near the end of the war. Mondl Manufacturing Company of Oshkosh made leather aviator helmets under government contract during World War II (1941-1945). The helmets contained a built-in radio headset and they were worn by aircrews and pilots.
