Description 
US Navy Officer's hatband: black wool mohair band; button holes on sides to attach to hat; front has tab with embroidered gilt metallic threads of gold and silver of eagle centered over a shield with two crossed anchors behind it. Worn on the base of the crown of the Service Hat. Nile W. Roeder was born in Oshkosh, WI on November 11, 1917. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and served on a destroyer doing convoy and antisubmarine duty. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He married Lois R. Mathwig on October 5, 1946. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and worked at the Continental Clothing Company for 43 years. He died in Oshkosh, WI in June 1979.
