Ration Can: gold colored tin box with removable lid; top of container reads "Lifeboat and Raft Rations/TO MINISTRY OF WAR/TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS/SPILLERS BISCUITS/96 = 2lbs. nett weight/Warranted Until..." Taken from a British lifeboat sunk in the Caribbean in 1942. The lifeboat was probably from a merchant ship sunk by a German U-boat. Nile W. Roeder was born in Oshkosh, WI on November 11, 1917. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and served on a destroyer doing convoy and antisubmarine duty. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He married Lois R. Mathwig on October 5, 1946. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and worked at the Continental Clothing Company for 43 years. He died in Oshkosh, WI in June 1979.
