Description 
World War II era German-made watch with 1 5/16" diameter steel body and luminous hands and Arabic numerals against a black background, sweep second hand below marked in ten second gradients. Marked "HELIOS" on face and marked "STAHL BODEN WASSERDICHT" on back ("Steel bottom Waterproof") along with serial number "D 28529 H." Nylon band is not original to watch; back of buckle imprinted with an outlined "K" and "HONG KONG". Donor was an armored infantryman in WWII and took this watch from a captured German officer in winter 1945. See May 21, 2004 brief oral history with donor about how he acquired this watch. Guilford "Bud" M. Wiley Jr. served in Company C, 17th Armored Infantry Battalion, 12th Armored Division, during World War II. He saw action in the European Theater of Operations and was wounded on April 12, 1945.
