Description Field Ration, U.S. Army K ration World War II. This cardboard box originally contained 20 five-stick packages of Wrigley's Doublemint Chewing Gum. Cover reads: "WRIGLEY'S DOUBLEMINT CHEWING GUM PEPPERMINT FLAVOR NEW YORK CHICAGO Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company MADE IN U.S.A." The packages of gum was included as part of a small, lightweight and easy-to-carry wax-coated cardboard food packet originally designed for US Army paratroopers, but adopted by all combat troops. Each K ration packet contained a complete individual meal of 2,700 calories for breakfast, dinner, and supper, along with cigarettes and matches, a can opener, spoon, confections or chewing gum, toilet paper, salt or sugar, water purification tablets, and beverage powder. The gum was probably part of a dinner or supper ration. This was probably issued to Adrian Hansen, a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne during World War II.
