Letter to May Ruth Muza from Harry A. Mettler, former commander of the USS LST 289. The Famous Globe Hotel PERSONALLY OWNED AND MANAGED BY HARRY & MARY K. METTLER Mount Gilead, Ohio Dear Mrs. Muza, Thank you most sincerely for your kin4 letter of July 20th. I was grateful both for your thoughtfulness and for the confirmation of my request to the Navy that the pictures sent me by the British had been forwarded to next of kin. As Earl had been with us from the early days of the 289, we had the opportunity of learning to know and respect him most highly. His pleasant disposition and willing cooperation made him stand out among an above the average group. I will inclose a copy of the action report which will give you some details of the engagement in which he was lost. Cordially Harry A. Mettler
