Abstract Letter to May Ruth Muza from James Forresal.

THE SECRETARY OF THE NAVY
WASHINGTON

The President of the United States takes pride in presenting the BRONZE STAR MEDAL posthumously to

EARL V. MUZA, SEAMAN SECOND CLASS UNITED STATES NAVAL RESERVE

for service as set forth in the following

CITATION:

"For heroic achievement while attached to LST 289 when that ship was attacked by enemy E Boats off Bill of Portland, England, on April 28, 1944.
With his vessel torn by a German torpedo, engines crippled and fires raging, MUZA returned to the stern of the ship and carried a wounded man to the wardroom. With utter disregard for his own personal safety, he went back again into the wreckage to search for another member of the crew but was fatally injured in this hazardous undertaking. MUZA' s extreme bravery and valiant self-sacrifice were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his shipmate."
