Letter from Robert E. Dewitt to his parents, Reverend Oliver E. an Edith DeWitt of Oshkosh, October 1, 1941. R. E. DeWitt Hickam Field Honolulu, Dearest Mommie, Got your letter this morning when I came back from school-(Betty probably wrote that I was relieved from Kitchen (my own wishes) & am going to Mechanics school-I took a break in pay -back to $30 now but not for long I hope. I didn't write cause I was waiting for one from Betty saying you were there. Got a letter from Dide & some pics of Betty & ____. OK Mom, we'll say a kitten when I start for home. I know how you like 'em & when I get back you'll have one some time. There's nothing to write about-payday yesterday got what I needed & am nearly broke again. We sweat out 40 days this mo. Between paydays instead of 30-Their splitting up paydays cause it causes to much congestion in town when all fields get paid at once - I'll have to spend next mos. salary on a tooth that one I get pulled in ____ - $20 I think unless he pulls another one - The Army don't replace front teeth, only back ones, so I have to go to town for the work - I'm studying real hard - got three subjects 2 hrs each every day - 14 weeks - than maybe ____few extra weeks - 1st. week got 97-97-87 in exams - pretty good eh? Mom, remember that "Ace" bandage I got for sprains ankles etc. - Donnie used it all the time too - Well there's one around there in my box or somewhere - I'd appreciate it is you'd put in small wrapper & send to me. I got _____ trick knee____ & it did it again - could use the "Ace" now - Infected hands all ___ now-last spot cleared up yesterday. Will ___ now I guess - All my Love, Your Son That pic you can see the Spot the tooth was-not good eh 2 __________________from Tulsa, Olk. Big as Dan-6'3"
