Letter from Staff Sergeant Edward Tadych, Company A. 632nd Tank Destroyer Battalion, to his father George Tadych in Oshkosh. Sgt. Edw. Tadych-36207984 Co. A. 632 nd. T.O.Bn. APO. 72 c/o Postmaster San Francisco, Calif. Nov. 5, 1944 Dear Folks: Today I received your letter from October the 3rd. This is the first mail we got since we left N. Guinea. I hope it keeps coming now. There isn't much news today because I told you all about it in my last letter. The only thing is that this island is in our hands now. There aren't very many more Japs left here. The people are moving back into their cities and homes after being in the mountains for the last three years. The weather here is very hot but it cools off at night. We run around in the daytime just in shorts and shoes, the same as we did in Guinea. We came out of this battle fairly good. We only had one casualty in our company. He is getting better but I don't think he'll be seeing any more action. Yes Ken should be home by now. He sure was lucky to miss this and be on his way home. I told him to stop in but I don't know if he did. I guess we will be going back into a rest camp soon. There we'll be equipped again with what we need and a little rest and then be ready to take off again. Today is Sunday here but I didn't go to church. We had to clear the [censored and cut out] up this morning. Mass was in the Filipino church here but said by an Army Chaplain. The people sure do have nice churches. They are having church three or four times today and after each mass they sing "God Bless America." This is the first I guess they held church here in the city since they were driven into the mountains. I guess we'll get the Christmas packages next Christmas instead of this year. Oh well maybe by that time we'll all be home. I think I'll have to close for now and hope I hear from you again soon. I'll write every chance I get. With All My Love. Eddie
