Possibly taken at New Caledonia, or another Pacific island. Leverette V. Pierce was a native of Oshkosh, WI and worked as the manager of Oshkosh Building Supply Company. He was married and his wife's name was Edna R. Pierce. He was drafted on April 30, 1942. He received his basic training at Fort Sheridan, IL and was assigned to the 230th Signal Operation Company. He was promoted to Private 1st Class on July 18, 1942 and rose to the rank of Technician 4th Grade. His unit served in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II. While stationed at New Caledonia, Leverette and his friends built a sailboat called the "Southern Cross" and in 1944 built a motorboat called the "Chief Oshkosh". |
