Notes Outdoor view taken near Buna, New Guinea. The image depicts Japanese dead on the beach and a landing barge in the background. Sent home by Staff Sergeant Irving A. Zwickey.
Irving A. Zwickey was born in Oshkosh, WI on October 24, 1914, the son of Adolph F. and Alma R. Zwickey. He graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1932. He enlisted in the Service Company , 127th Infantry, 32nd Division, Wisconsin National Guard prior to 1939. He was called to active duty in October 1940. He fought in the Pacific at Buna, Gona Mission, and Wau in New Guinea. He was hospitalized with jungle fever in April 1944 and sent back to the United States in August 1944. He died at Vaugn Hospital in Hines, IL on September 1, 1944.
