Frank L. "Sonny" Benderling was born April 25, 1917 in Oshkosh, WI. He married Clara Penzenstadier on November 23, 1940. They had one son, Thomas Benderling. He was working for Faust machine shop when he was drafted on January 6, 1943. He was listed as missing in action in the North African theater in December 1943 and later declared killed in action on November 27, 1944 when his transport ship was sunk in the Mediterranean Sea along with 497 other men.
