Notes Candid outdoor view of Staff Sergeant Ralph J. Kersch. He is wearing an A-2 leather flight jacket, flight helmet and goggles.
Ralph J. Kirsch was born in Oshkosh, WI August 30, 1921, the son of Wallace J. and Elizabeth M. Kirsch. He graduated from Oshkosh High School and enlisted in the Army Air Force in October 1941. He married Ruth Smith of Charlottesville, VA in 1943 and the couple had a daughter named Delores. He served with the 75th Bomber Squadron in the Pacific Theater as a gunner on B-25 "Mitchell" medium bombers. His plane did not report back after a mission over Rabaul, New Britain on January 22, 1944. He was officially declared killed in action and was awarded the Air Medal with oak leaf cluster posthumously.
