Notes Copy print made by the OPM in the 1940s from P2005.20.64, depicting Corporal Ervin E. Lemke. He is wearing a service uniform and hat in front of a barracks building.
Ervin E. Lemke was born in Neenah, WI on September 3, 1921 the son of Fred A. Lemke. The family moved to Oshkosh where Ervin graduated from Slough Bridge School. His parents were divorced and his mother lived in Milwaukee. He was working for Waite Carpet Company when the Attack on Pearl Harbor occurred and he enlisted in the Army Air Force. He trained at Sheppard Field, TX and Selfridge Field, MI. He married his wife June Lemke from New York City and the couple had one child. He was assigned to the 88th Fighter Squadron, which served in India. He died in the service on September 12, 1943.
