Bust view of Corporal Arnold H. Nelson. He is wearing his service uniform and Garrison Cap. He is wearing an American Defence and American Campaign Ribbons on his left breast. Arnold H. Nelson was born August 2, 1920 in New London, WI, the son of Albert E. and Alyce Nelson. He worked in a machine shop in Mosinee, Marathon County, WI. His parents moved to Oshkosh in 1940. Arnold enlisted August 26, 1940 in the US Army. He arrived with the 5th Division in England February 1942. He was wounded in the abdomen by German artillery fire and was being evacuated off the field when he and the litter party carrying him were hit by another artillery shell and killed on July 26, 1944 in France. He was buried at the US Military Cemetery in St. Laurent Sur Mere, France. |
