Bust view of Staff Sergeant Robert F. Rhyner. He is wearing a summer khaki shirt with Army Air Force shoulder patch and Private First Class chevrons. He also wears a service hat. Robert F. Rhyner was the son of C. E. Rhyner of rural Oshkosh. He was inducted into military service in April 1943. He trained as a waist gunner on B-17 "Flying Fortress" Bombers and was sent overseas September 1944 and assigned to the 8th Air Force in England. He had flown on several missions before he was reported as missing in action over Germany on November 2, 1944 and reported as a prisoner of war on December 16, 1944. |
