Outdoor view of John W. Ponkow. He is wearing civilian clothes and is standing in front of a house. John W. Ponkow was born June 26, 1917, the son of Alvina Ponkow of Oshkosh. He enlisted in the Army on November 5, 1939 and served in Europe. He fought in France, Belgium and Germany and achieved the rank of 1st sergeant. He was awarded two bronze stars and the Distinguished Service Medal. He married Lily Reynolds of Doncaster, Yorkshire, England in August 1945. |
