Bust view image of Corporal Frank I. Chalupa, Technician 5th Grade. He wears the Winter Service Coat with 70th Division patch, chevrons, and his marksmanship qualification badge above his left breast pocket. He also wears a garrison cap. Frank I. Chalupa was born in Oshkosh, WI in 1923, the son of Joanne W. (Minnie) Drenks Chalupa and Frank Frederick Chalupa. Frank attended Oshkosh Teachers College for three years and was drafted/inducted into the United States Army in 1943. He trained at Camp Adair near Corvallis, OR and shipped out to Europe in 1944. He served as a medic in the 70th "Trailblazer" Infantry Division. After World War II, he finished his last year at Oshkosh Teachers College; taught high school (math, chemistry, history, etc.) at Luxemburg school in Kewanee County, WI for 30 years. He coached high school wrestling and baseball, was a professional umpire in Oshkosh for Giants games, and other local teams while teaching. He died February 20, 2007. |
