Outdoor view of a row of shelter tents (Pup Tents) at the Winnebago County Fair grounds. Civilians are walking through the rows and looking at the scene. The fair buildings are in the background. The Four Wheel Drive Auto Company, in Clintonville, Wisconsin, received a contract for trucks from England in 1916 and the US Army in 1917. Sixty of the English trucks were commandeered by the US when America entered World War I. In 1918 a large shipment of trucks were convoyed to Raritan Arsenal in New York. They passed through Oshkosh and spent one night at the Winnebago County Fairground. Total production of trucks during World War I were 3,000 for Great Britain; 82 for Russia, and 14,473 for the United States. |
