Record 494/678 Catalog Record World War I Exhibit Page Home Search Image 1 of 2 Description  Navy Pullover Shirt: dark navy blue wool construction; large roll collar with three white stripes along edge and white five-pointed stars in each corner; three white stripes on cuff (Petty Officer and Seamen 1st Class); two plastic buttons on cuff; three white hash marks midway on left sleeve; a red anchor with white life saver is embroidered at the point of the neck; interior has remnants of a white stencil of the owner's name on the hem: "___W___S__". Morris Emmett Wilson was born in 1894. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1914 and was stationed at Great Lakes Naval Station near Chicago. He was a member of John Phillip Susa's band playing the clarinet until 1917. Discharged in 1919. He was a Musician 1st Class. Opened a music store in San Francisco circa 1920; head of the music department at Montana Weslyan; earned BA in philosophy; MA in education; played piano for silent films in Chicago; 1927 helped form the School of Music at Ohio State University; 1937 PhD in psychology; 1960 had daily music appreciation radio program; visiting professor in England, and wrote several books on music.
