Description 
Model 1917 Enlisted Man's Tunic: olive drab wool coat with four exterior patch pockets and pointed flaps with small eagle button closure; five blackened bronze eagle buttons down front; green cotton lining; stand-up collar with darkened bronze "US" disk and "53" over crossed rifles and "M"; shoulder straps attached with small eagle buttons; red six-pointed star (6th Division) patch on left shoulder; red discharge stripe on left sleeve; two gold embroidered overseas stripes near left cuff (one year); right sleeve has crossed rifles patch (Private First Class). John W. Last worked for the Oshkosh Paper Box Company as a shipping clerk in 1916. He served in Company M, 53rd Infantry, 6th Division during World War I.
