Abstract Letter from Alfred A. Thelen, Company F, 354th Infantry, 89th "Middle West" Division, to his sister.

Monday Nov 4
Base Hospital, France

Dear Sister Christine:
This is probably a surprise to hear that I am in the Hospital, where I have been [illegible] a week and I am getting along just fine so I expect to be out again very shortly a week or two.
The war will probably be all over by the time I get out, but lets hope we can start for home [illegible]. I suppose you are anxious to know what's wrong with me. Well I was gassed slightly.
You can feel satisfied, that I am feeling fine again, and will come out O.K.
How does Kathryn like her new job? How is Lona coming?
There really isn't any thing much of interest only about peace and we are all so very anxious when we come back home.
The war surely will be over with by the time you receive this letter, so if you don't hear from me often I am coming home soon as possible.
This is all I know of so will close hoping you are all well and happy and hoping the day is not far off when I will be with you again. With all my love and best regards to Father, Mother & rest from your brother
