Description 
German Officer's Dress Belt or Baldric: leather belt with gold bullion on exterior; adjustable brass keeper; gilt metal buckle and end piece. "This belt was used by the Prussian Guards. It was taken by John Matschi at Chateau Thierry, France." John T. Matschi was born in Oshkosh, WI on January 4, 1892, the son of Jacob and Anna (Demel) Matschi. He enlisted in Company F, 2nd Wisconsin National Guard June 1, 1911. He was promoted to 2nd Corporal on May 31, 1914 and promoted to Sergeant on July 24, 1916. He served in Texas during the Mexican Border War 1916-1917. He was transferred to Company C, 150th Machine Gun Battalion, 42nd Division in August 1917. He attended Officer's Candidate School in France from December 1, 1917 to March 14, 1918. He was promoted to Mess Sergeant on September 25, 1918. He returned to Oshkosh after World War I, married and worked for Paine Lumber Company. He died circa 1970.
