Notes Candid outdoor image of Wenzel Matschi (left) and friend. The image shows him standing in front of a wooden building wearing Model 1917 uniform, over seas cap and puttees. The other soldier wears a drivers cap and coveralls.
Wenzel Matschi was born in Oshkosh, WI on September 25, 1897, the son of Jacob and Anna (Demel) Matschi. He enlisted in Company F, 2nd Wisconsin National Guard on June 12, 1916. He served in Texas during the Mexican Border War 1916. He was transferred to Company C, 150th Machine Gun Battalion, 42nd Division in August 1917. He was promoted to Private First Class. He returned to Oshkosh after World War I.
