Notes Candid outdoor image by Sergeant John Matschi. The image shows Lorenzo Reed, Company C, 150th Machine Gun Battalion, 42nd Division, at Camp Mills, New York. Taken prior to their departure for France. Corporal Adolph Sphatt is sitting in the doorway to the tent in background and is holding a piece of hard bread.
Lorenzo Reed was born September 27, 1894. He enlisted in Company F, 2nd Wisconsin National Guard on June 30, 1917. Company F became Company C, 150th Machine Gun Battalion, 42nd "Rainbow" Division in July 1917. Reed was wounded severely by shell shock on July 30, 1918 near Chateau Thierry. He did not return to the company.
