Group photograph of a squad from Company C, 150th Machinegun Battalion, 42nd Division at Camp Mills, NY. Their uniforms consist of pull-over shirts, breeces and leggings, and campaign hats. Conical tents are in the background. Frank Phillips is standing in the back row far right. Frank Phillips was born as Franz Phillip in Oshkosh, WI on January 9, 1890, the son of Marcus "Max" and Maria (Pable) Phillip. He enlisted in Company F, 2nd Wisconsin National Guard on June 21, 1916. he saw service for eightmonths in Texas during the mexican Border War 1916. He was transferred on August 15, 1917 to Company C, 150th Machinegun Battalion, 42nd Division. He was killed in action by multiple shrapnel wounds on July 29, 1918. |
