Outdoor view of Richard Procknow Company C, 150th Machinegun Battalion, 42nd Division. He is standing at the top of a conical tent by the stove pipe. Inscribed "acting as chimney sweep".
Richard Procknow was born in Black Wolf on September 23, 1895, the son of William Procknow. He worked for Waite Grass Carpet and Deltox Grass Rug Company. In 1916 he joined Company F, 2nd Wisconsin National Guard and saw service on the Mexican Border in 1916. In 1917 they became Company C, 150th Machine Gun Battalion, 42nd Division. He rose to the rank of sergeant. He died one and a half hours after an artillery shell blew off both his legs on July 30, 1918. His body was returned and buried at Riverside Cemetery in Lot 10, West 1/2 Block 163. |
