American E. F. France Aug. 24, 1918 Mrs. Kate Mand: It is with the deepest sorrow that I have to inform you that you have given to America-to Liberty and to the ideals of a free people-the supreme sacrifice-your son. Nick was seriously wounded about noon of August 2nd. he died peacefully a few hours later. I went to Nick shortly after he was wounded and gave him "first aid" and cheered him up a bit, he was brave to the last. America grieves the loss of a soldier-you grieve the loss of a son. Though your grief be deep let it be a comfort to know that Nick was a true son and a brave soldier. Expressing the sympathy of the Officers and men of Company C. I remain yours truly Lieut. Arthur R. Bahr Co. C. 150 M. G. Bn. |
