Letter from Corporal Walter Thorne, Company C, 150th Machine Gun Battalion, 42nd Division, to his mother, Emma W. Thorne. France 1/9/18 Dearest Mother, Just received your most dear and welcome letter and was sure glad to here from you and that you are all in good health as this leaves me. Have not got the watch as yet and considering that it was registered it may not reach me at all here. They may send it right ahead and then they may hold it the usual time and forward it. Have a notion to write the postmaster and find out. Sent you a letter just after receiving the Xmas box and I was sure glad to get it and you can also thank the kind people who sent me those presents and they sure were appreciated, you bet. Got quite a few boxes from the girls and friends this year, but here we can not return their kindness, only by saying thanks. The one thing I wish would come now is that watch and I am anxiously awaiting for each mail always looking for the package. Well mother as there is not much to write here only that we are all in the best of health and are having a good time. So give my best to all and save most of it for yourself. Your Loving Son, Walter
