Record 204/678 Catalog Record World War I Exhibit Page Home Search Image 2 of 2 Description  Model 1917 Tunic: olive drab wool; five darkened bronze eagle button front closure (one missing); four patch pockets with flaps and small darkened bronze eagle button closure; right sleeve with patch of circular shape with a horseshoe in the center (Ferrier); left sleeve has shoulder patch of a three striped arc shape in red, yellow, and blue rainbow (42nd Division); middle of left sleeve has red chevron pointing downward (Discharge Stripe); bottom of sleeve has three chevrons pointing downward (overseas stripes for 1 1/2 years); stand-up collar with darkened bronze "NG" (National Guard) Disk on one side; and green cotton lining in body of coat. Adolph Castonia enlisted in Company F, 2nd Wisconsin National Guard in 1917. Company F, became Company C, 150th Machine Gun Battalion, 42nd Division during World War I. Because of his blacksmith experience making horseshoes, he was made Ferrier. He also drove ammunition wagons. He was able to speak French, and was often in demand of his comrades to act as an interpreter.
