Letters from Lieutenant Arthur Bahr to Augusta Spaedtke concerning the death of Private Otto Spaedtke, Company C, 150th Machine Gun Battalion. American E. F. France Aug. 24,1918 Mrs. Spaedtke, My Dear Mrs. Spaedtke, It is with deepest sorrow that I have to inform you that you have given to America-to Liberty, and to the ideals of a free people - the supreme sacrifice-your son. Otto was almost instantly killed, while in the performance of his duties, in action against the enemy on July 30th. He was a friend to all and we will miss him more and more as time goes on. America grieves the loss of a soldier-you grieve the loss of a son. Though your grief be deep let it be a comfort to know that Otto was a true son and a brave soldier. Expressing the sympathy of the Officers and men of Company C. I remain yours truly Lieut. Arthur R. Bahr
