Outdoor view of the grave of Vernon Brabazon, Company B, 127th Infantry, 32nd Division in an Oshkosh cemetery after his body was returned from France. A marble gravestone reads: "Honor Fidelity/Vernon A. Brabazon/Co. B, 127th Reg., 32nd Div./U.S.A./Born May 18, 1893/Killed in Action/At Sergy, France/August 1, 1918". His photograph is mounted on the gravestone and the figure of a soldier is etched at left on the stone. An American flag is planted at the foot and flowers appear near the stone. The decorated gravestones of other family members are visible at right. Vernon A. Brabazon was born in Gladstone, MI May 18, 1893, the son of Elbert William and Margaret Brabazon. He came to Oshkosh with his family in 1910. He enlisted in Company B, 2nd Wisconsin National Guard in 1916 and saw service on the Mexican Border. Old Company B became Company B, 127th Infantry, 32nd Division in 1917. He was killed in battle August 1, 1918 at Bellvue Farm near Sergy, France. His remains were returned to Oshkosh in 1921. |
