Description Model 1917 Officer's Overseas Cap: olive drab wool cap with fold-up flaps on each side; silk lining; leather sweatband; and officer's maroon piping (Medical Corps); captain's cloth bars sewn on front of cap.

John M. Scantleton served as a surgeon in the Medical Corps of the 128th Infantry, 32nd Division, during World War I. He was awarded the Croix de Guerre Medal by the French Government.
