Record 156/160 Catalog Record Spanish American War Exhibit Page Home Search Description  USMC/Marine Corps Service Coat: dark blue wool with seven gilt brass buttons with eagle clutching anchor; cuff trimmed with red and three small gilt brass USMC buttons; red piping on front facing; red piping on collar; red piping and two small USMC buttons on shoulder tabs; body is partially lined with black cotton; sleeves are lined with white cotton. USMC Quartermaster stamp in sleeve with year "1900-1901" and handwritten "G HARM" on inside shoulder. George W. Harm was born in Pennsylvania in 1866. His family moved to a farm in Winnebago County about 1869. George served in the United States Marine Corps from October 25, 1899 through October 25, 1904. In the 1900 US Census he is listed as a Private in the Marine Detachment on board the Battleship USS Kearsarge in Boston Harbor. In 1926 he applied for a military penssion. He lived with his sisters in Oshkosh and worked as a sash and door maker in one of the lumber mills. He was a member of the Nelson A. Miles Post No. 1, United Spanish War Veterans. He died in Oshkosh on January 24, 1946.
