Description Haversack for carrying food and mess kit: khaki cotton canvas construction; bag with two compartments inside; outer flap with bound edges and stenciled with "2/U.S./WIS" (2nd Wisconsin National Guard); leather closure straps sewn to inside of flap and to bottom of bag sand steel buckle; maker stamped "Rock Island Arsenal" on the inside; marked "N" on the back; and two steel rings for shoulder strap sewn to back near top.Two leather sword hangers are attached to the shoulder strap rings and do not go with this bag.

Used by 1st Lieutenant Henry Tyriver, Company B, or Captain Julius Nemitz, 2nd Wisconsin National Guard during the Spanish American War.
