Description Pair of Pattern 1888 Canvas Leggings: three-piece cotton canvas construction; seven brass grommet holes on one side; six brass "Speed Lacers" on the other with grommet holes top and bottom on the other side; leather straps with steel buckles at the bottoms; cotton cord laces; written on inside in black ink: "E. GTKE/Co.F.2.W./I".

Used by Edward Getke, Company F, 2nd Wisconsin National Guard, during the Spanish American War.
Edward Getke was born in Germany circa 1876. He enlisted in Company F, 2nd Wisconsin National Guard on July 3, 1897 at the age of 19 to serve for three years. He was a chair maker by profession and worked at the Buckstaff-Edwards Company.
