Description Rubberized canvas rain proof poncho: rectangular shape; edges bound with rubberized canvas; neck opening in middle with flap; brass grommets around edges with rubberized canvas reinforcements; illegible maker's stamp on canvas side. Hand written in ink: "E. GETKE/Co. F. 2 WI". Hand written in ink: "[illegible]/CO. F. 2 VOL./WIS".

Used by Private Edward Getke, Company F, 2nd Wisconsin National Guard, in Puerto Rico during the Spanish American War. Edward Getke was born in Germany circa 1876. He enlisted in Company F, 2nd Wisconsin National Guard on July 3, 1897 at the age of 19 to serve for three years. He was a chair maker by profession and worked at the Buckstaff-Edwards Company.
