Julius Nemitz was born in Germany in 1857. He immigrated to the United States about 1883. On November 30, 1884 he married Emma Kuehn. The couple had no children. She was born in 1862 and died May 30, 1926. They built a large Queen Anne style house at 125 Jefferson in 1892, which was torn down in the 1960s. Julius enlisted in Company F, 2nd Wisconsin National Guard on April 21, 1885. He was promoted to Quartermaster Sergeant on March 17, 1886; 2nd Lieutenant June 26, 1886; 1st Lieutenant December 14, 1888; Captain and Regimental Quartermaster November 10, 1891; mustered into Federal service May 12, 1898 and served in Puerto Rico during the Spanish American War; promoted to Major June 13, 1899; and Lieutenant Colonel January 13, 1914. He retired circa 1916. Nemitz was in partnership with A. C. Ahrmond's clothing and tailor store from 1886-1888. He opened his own clothing store at 28 Kansas Street (South Main) 1889-1890 and relocated to 44 Main Street from 1891-1904. He was a cement contractor from 1908-1922. He went into retirement, but served as Oshkosh City overseer of the Poor and Sidewalk Inspector from 1930-1931. Nemitz was very active in several veterans associations and was commander of the Nelson Miles Post in Oshkosh of the Spanish American War Veterans and was the Wisconsin Department Commander. He died in Oshkosh in 1941. |

Abstract |
A booklet entitled, "Welcome to Co. F". This booklet was distributed when members of Company F, 2nd Wisconsin National Guard returned to Oshkosh following the Spanish American War. A banquet was held in their honor at the Revere House on September 29, 1898. The booklet contains a complete roster. |
