Thumb-print view of Mary Elanor Jewell Sawyer wearing a light colored dress and white blouse. She also wears ear bobs and a pin. Mary Elanor Jewell was born in Canaan, NY on July 3, 1842. Daughter of Henry Chapin Jewell; wealthy Oshkosh lumberman, Mayor of Oshkosh, and state congressman who came to Wisconsin in 1843 and Oshkosh in 1852. She married Edgar Philetus Sawyer on October 18, 1864. They had two children; Maria Melvina "Nia" Sawyer Chase and Philetus "Phil" Horace Sawyer. She died November, 1910. |
