| Abstract |
1 letter from Elmer R. to Albert Bennett.
September 16, 1864
Albert
I write you a few lines to let you know that we are all well and received your letter and was sorry to hear you been sick and lame. So I have thought you had best come home as this is the most sicklyest season of the year. And I don't think you are well enough at present to bone into hard work. And if you want to work you can get just as much wages here as there. I was at the war meeting last night and heard them make all of their reports concerning the quota and draft of Omro. They have sent and paid twenty men and want to send eleven more. And they reported they had them all enlisted, but had to pay to the eleven men yet ten hundred dollars of which they lacked seven hundred and will probably have it all fixed in a few days. They got one hundred dollars last night which only leaves six hundred. So I think you need not be afraid to come any time you please, for everybody says there will be no draft in Omro this time.
Elmer R. Bennett Amos Bennett is here now to build [illegible] an elevator in Omro. |
